Just 6 minutes ago, a 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Gueiria, Valdez Municipality, Sucre, Venezuela. The tremor was recorded in the evening on Sunday, May 11th, 2025, at 8:41 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 26. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Gueiria (pop. 40,000) located 13 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Port of Spain (pop. 49,000) located 80 km from the epicenter, Chaguanas (pop. 67,400) 93 km away, and San Fernando (pop. 55,400) 96 km away.
