An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred only 16 minutes ago 69 km southeast of Reggio Calabria, Italy, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter near Reggio Calabria, Province of Reggio Calabria, Calabria, Italy, early morning on Wednesday, April 16th, 2025, at 2:26 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Galati (pop. 260) located 30 km from the epicenter, Brancaleone (pop. 3,900) 32 km away, Brancaleone-Marina (pop. 3,100) 32 km away, Bova Marina (pop. 3,900) 39 km away, San Carlo-Condofuri Marina (pop. 4,200) 42 km away, and Siderno (pop. 15,700) 64 km away.
