An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 occurred late Tuesday night, October 20, 2026, at 11:29 p.m. local time near Meulaboh, West Aceh Regency, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province, Indonesia, according to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at an intermediate depth of 76 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage but was probably felt by many people as a light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Meulaboh (pop. 64,600), located 55 km from the epicenter, and Blangpidie (pop. 24,100), 121 km away.
