A magnitude 4.5 earthquake near Tandag, Surigao del Sur, Caraga, Philippines, was reported 36 minutes ago by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter early afternoon on Saturday, August 2nd, 2025, at 3:27 pm local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Bacolod (pop. 2,200) located 48 km from the epicenter, La Paz (pop. 2,300) 48 km away, Aras-asan (pop. 5,100) 48 km away, Tago (pop. 6,300) 50 km away, Tandag (pop. 29,000) 52 km away, Burgos (pop. 3,500) 55 km away, and Marihatag (pop. 3,800) 55 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Cantilan (pop. 9,400) located 79 km from the epicenter.

A magnitude 4.6 earthquake near Tandag, Surigao del Sur, Caraga, Philippines, was reported only 11 minutes ago by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter early afternoon on Saturday, August 2nd, 2025, at 3:31 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
