Less Than 2 Weeks Left To Apply for FEMA Assistance Following February Severe Storms and Flooding

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Homeowners and renters in Breathitt, Clay, Estill, Floyd, Harlan, Johnson, Knott, Lee, Leslie, 

Letcher, Martin, Owsley, Perry, Pike, Simpson and Woodford counties who experienced damage or losses caused by 

the February severe storms and floods have less than 2 weeks to apply for federal disaster assistance. The deadline to apply for federal assistance is May 25. 

Survivors of the April storms still have until June 25 to Apply.

How To Apply for FEMA Assistance

There are several ways to apply for FEMA assistance:

Online at DisasterAssistance.gov.Visit any Disaster Recovery Center. To find a center close to you, visit fema.gov/DRC, or text DRC along with your Zip Code to 43362 (Example: “DRC 29169”).Use the FEMA mobile app.Call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. It is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern Time. Help is available in many languages. If you use a relay service, such as Video Relay Service (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service. FEMA works with every household on a case-by-case basis.

FEMA representatives can explain available assistance programs, how to apply to FEMA, and help connect survivors with resources for their recovery needs.

When you apply, you will need to provide:

A current phone number where you can be contacted.Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying.Your Social Security Number. A general list of damage and losses.Banking

Magnitude 2.6 earthquake strikes near Freiburg, Freiburg Region, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany

An earthquake of magnitude 2.6 occurred only 12 minutes ago 18 km southwest of Freiburg, Germany, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 12.50 km beneath the epicenter near Freiburg, Freiburg Region, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany, in the evening on Monday, May 12th, 2025, at 8:06 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from France’s Military Applications Division – Earth and Environmental Science (CEA) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.0. Other agencies reporting the same quake include France’s Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) at magnitude 2.6, and the Swiss Seismological Service (SED) at magnitude 2.7.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Hartheim (pop. 4,500) located 3 km from the epicenter. In Mullheim (pop. 18,100, 11 km away), Freiburg (pop. 216,000, 18 km away), Emmendingen (pop. 27,400, 28 km away), Waldkirch (pop. 20,200, 32 km away), Schopfheim (pop. 19,400, 32 km away), Loerrach (pop. 47,000, 33 km away), and Weil am Rhein (pop. 29,500, 35 km away), the quake was probably not
