An earthquake of magnitude 3.7 occurred only 4 minutes ago 4 miles south of Brawley, California, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10.1 miles beneath the epicenter near Brawley, Imperial County, California, USA, late at night on Monday, August 4th, 2025, at 11:59 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.8. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.8.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Brawley (pop. 25,900) located 4 miles from the epicenter, Imperial (pop. 17,100) 5 miles away, and El Centro (pop. 44,000) 9 miles away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Holtville (pop. 6,400) located 12 miles from the epicenter, Heber (pop.
