A magnitude 4.1 earthquake near Akutan, Aleutians East, Alaska, USA, was reported only 19 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered the key international and national agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 12 miles beneath the epicenter around noon on Wednesday, June 18th, 2025, at 12:50 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.1 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.1.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Akutan (pop. 1000) located 44 miles from the epicenter, Unalaska (pop. 4,500) 54 miles away, and Dutch Harbor (pop. 4,400) 55 miles away.
