An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 occurred 34 minutes ago 26 km northeast of Agartala, India, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter near Agartala, West Tripura, Tripura, India, in the afternoon on Friday, April 11th, 2025, at 4:52 pm local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Shahbazpur Town (pop. 29,800) located 20 km from the epicenter, Khowai (pop. 20,000) 24 km away, Khowai (pop. 20,000) 24 km away, and Agartala (pop. 203,300) 26 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ashuganj City (pop. 180,700) located 36 km from the epicenter, Habiganj (pop. 88,800) 37 km away, and Bhairab Bazar (pop. 105,500) 40 km away.
