An earthquake of magnitude 3.6 occurred only 12 minutes ago 33 km northwest of Messina, Italy, Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate to considerable depth of 168.60 km beneath the epicenter near Messina, Province of Messina, Sicily, Italy, in the evening on Monday, April 28th, 2025, at 9:39 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.6 earthquake as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Sparta'(pop. 1,300, 22 km away), Messina (pop. 219,900, 33 km away), Milazzo (pop. 31,800, 34 km away), Palmi (pop. 18,600, 38 km away), Gioia Tauro (pop. 18,800, 40 km away), Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto (pop. 34,600, 42 km away), Reggio Calabria (pop. 182,500, 46 km away), and Vibo Valentia (pop. 19,300, 61 km away), the quake was probably not felt.

If you felt it, report it through our site or app right now!
