An earthquake of magnitude 3.7 occurred only 16 minutes ago 39 km northwest of Talcahuano, Chile, The National Seismological Center (Centro Sismológico Nacional, CSN) of the University of Chile reported.
The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 34. km beneath the epicenter near Talcahuano, Provincia de Concepción, Region del Biobio, Chile, early evening on Monday, June 16th, 2025, at 7:04 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.7 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Talcahuano (pop. 253,000) located 39 km from the epicenter, Tome (pop. 46,700) 49 km away, Penco (pop. 46,100) 50 km away, and Chiguayante (pop. 82,500) 60 km away.
