Just 6 minutes ago, a 2.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Lausanne, Lausanne District, Canton de Vaud, Switzerland. The tremor was recorded around noon on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025, at 1:30 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 18.40 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by France’s Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS), which listed it as a magnitude 2.7 earthquake.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Morgins (pop. 1000) located 3 km from the epicenter, and Monthey (pop. 15,100) 11 km away. In Montreux (pop. 26,000, 24 km away), Vevey (pop. 15,800, 26 km away), Pully (pop. 16,300, 34 km away), Lausanne (pop. 139,100, 35 km away), Renens (pop. 17,800, 39 km away), Bulle (pop. 23,400, 47 km away), and Nyon (pop. 16,800, 48 km away), the quake was probably not felt.

An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 occurred only 4 minutes ago 91 km southeast of Irakleion, Greece, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 17. km beneath the epicenter near Irakleion, Heraklion, Crete, Greece, early afternoon on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025, at 2:26 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 5.6 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 5.0, and The Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA) at magnitude 5.3.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Ierapetra (pop. 12,400) located 37 km from the epicenter, Nea Anatoli (pop. 1000) 37 km away, Gra Liyia (pop. 1,500) 37 km away, Kentri (pop. 1000) 39 km away, and Agios Nikolaos (pop. 11,400) 57 km away, the quake should have been felt
