An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred in the evening on Wednesday, June 18th, 2025, at 9:47 pm local time near Legaspi, Albay, Bicol, Philippines, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Donsol (pop. 6,200) located 5 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Legaspi (pop. 179,500) located 35 km from the epicenter, Tagas (pop. 15,300) 37 km away, Bulan (pop. 28,500) 40 km away, Oas (pop. 66,100) 44 km away, Sorsogon (pop. 82,700) 47 km away, Polangui
