An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 occurred only 4 minutes ago 6 km southwest of Pozzuoli, Italy, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter near Pozzuoli, Naples, Campania, Italy, around noon on Tuesday, May 13th, 2025, at 12:07 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.0 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Bacoli (pop. 25,600) located 1 km from the epicenter, and Bacoli (pop. 25,600) 1 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Pozzuoli (pop. 81,200) located 6 km from the epicenter, Pianura (pop. 57,800) 12 km away, Quarto (pop. 37,700) 12 km away, Fuorigrotta (pop. 76,500) 12 km away, Soccavo (pop. 45,300) 12 km away, Naples (pop. 909,000) 18 km away,
