Sustained southerly winds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts 30 to 40 mph are expected today with winds turning northwesterly this afternoon. Occasional localized gusts up to 45 mph are possible. A combination of the strong winds and dry fuels will result in elevated fire weather conditions.

Patchy dense fog has developed across parts of Suffolk County early this morning. The visibility may be reduced to below a quarter mile in spots. Fog is expected to clear within a couple of hours after sunrise. Motorists this morning should proceed with extra caution and be prepared for rapid changes in visibility. Use low beam headlights and allow for extra space between vehicles.
