A magnitude 4.9 earthquake near Manay, Davao Oriental, Davao, Philippines, was reported only 11 minutes ago by Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at an intermediate depth of 77. km beneath the epicenter in the morning on Wednesday, May 7th, 2025, at 11:48 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Baculin (pop. 3,000) located 65 km from the epicenter, Baganga (pop. 10,100) 66 km away, Kinablangan (pop. 5,400) 69 km away, and Taytayan (pop. 6,900) 75 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Manay (pop. 20,300) located 79 km from the epicenter, Bislig (pop. 67,600) 117 km away, and Compostela (pop. 42,600) 119 km away.
