The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported a magnitude 4.8 quake in the Philippines near Santiago, Isabela, Cagayan Valley, only 12 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Thursday, May 1st, 2025, at 6:15 am local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Dicamay (pop. 2,400) located 58 km from the epicenter, San Mariano (pop. 12,400) 76 km away, Maddela (pop. 9,800) 79 km away, Aglipay (pop. 30,700) 83 km away, and Alicia (pop. 24,700) 87 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Santiago (pop. 108,400) located 98 km from the epicenter, Ilagan (pop. 72,400) 99 km away, and Ramon (pop. 36,300) 103 km away.
