FRANKFORT, Ky. – A Disaster Recovery Center has opened in Laurel County to offer in-person support to Kentucky survivors who experienced loss as the result of the severe storms, straight-line winds and tornadoes from May 16-17, 2025. The new Disaster Recovery Center in Laurel County is located at:

Laurel County Public Library, 120 College Park Drive, London, KY 40741 

Working hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Saturday and 1 – 7 p.m. Eastern Time, Sunday.

Disaster Recovery Centers are one-stop shops where you can get information and advice on available assistance from state, federal and community organizations. You can get help to apply for FEMA assistance, learn the status of your FEMA application, understand the letters you get from FEMA and get referrals to agencies that may offer other assistance. The U.S. Small Business Administration representatives and resources from the Commonwealth are also available at the Disaster Recovery Centers to assist you.

FEMA is encouraging Kentuckians affected by the May tornadoes to apply for federal disaster assistance as soon as possible. 

You can visit any Disaster Recovery Center to get in-person assistance. No appointment is needed. To find all other center locations, including those in other states, go to fema.gov/drc or text “DRC” and a Zip Code to 43362. 

You don’t have to visit a center to apply for FEMA assistance. There are other ways

FRANKFORT, Ky. – FEMA is offering a wide variety of help to people affected by the severe storms, straight-line winds and tornadoes from May 16-17 in Kentucky. Every homeowner or renter who suffered damage or loss is encouraged to apply. 

FEMA can provide money to eligible applicants for help with serious needs, paying for a temporary place to live, home repairs and other needs not covered by insurance.

Disaster assistance is not a substitute for insurance and cannot compensate for all losses caused by a disaster. The assistance is intended to meet basic needs and supplement disaster recovery efforts.

Money provided by FEMA may include:

Serious Needs: Money for lifesaving and life-sustaining items, including water, food, first aid, prescriptions, infant formula, breastfeeding supplies, diapers, consumable medical supplies, durable medical equipment, personal hygiene items and fuel for transportation.Displacement: Money to help with housing needs if you cannot return to your home because of the disaster. The money can be used to stay in a hotel, with family and friends or other options while you look for a rental unit.Home Repair or Replacement: Money to help you repair or replace your home damaged by the disaster. The money can also help with pre-existing damage to parts of your home where the disaster caused further damage.Rental Assistance: Money you can use to rent housing if you are displaced from your

The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at the University of Memphis invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in the area of Transportation Systems Engineering. The successful candidate will work with faculty in the Center for Transportation Innovations in Education and Research (C-TIER) on multiple interdisciplinary projects focused on emerging technologies in transportation.

Primary research areas include—but are not limited to—connected and automated vehicles (CAVs), vehicle telematics, transportation electrification, traffic safety, virtual/augmented reality (VR/AR) applications, and advanced transportation operations modeling. The postdoctoral fellow will contribute to federally and state-funded research, mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers, support proposal development, and publish findings in high-impact journals and conferences.
