Just 22 minutes ago, a 2.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Sokolov, Sokolov District, Karlovarsky kraj, Czechia. The tremor was recorded late at night on Thursday, November 20th, 2025, at 11:11 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 5. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 2.3 as well. A third agency, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), reported the same quake at magnitude 2.3.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Luby (pop. 2,500) located 2 km from the epicenter, and Kraslice (pop. 7,200) 9 km away. In Sokolov (pop. 24,900, 18 km away), Cheb (pop. 33,200, 21 km away), Selb (pop. 17,100, 24 km away), Auerbach (pop. 21,400, 27 km away), Karlovy Vary (pop. 45,500, 32 km away), Plauen (pop. 66,400, 33 km away), and Ostrov (pop. 17,200, 37 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
