Just 5 minutes ago, a 3.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Kaposvar, Somogy megye, Hungary. The tremor was recorded early afternoon on Friday, April 25th, 2025, at 2:16 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 10. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Berzence (pop. 2,700) located 5 km from the epicenter, Csurgo (pop. 5,700) 7 km away, Nagyatad (pop. 10,300) 13 km away, and Segesd (pop. 2,700) 17 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Nagykanizsa (pop. 47,300) located 28 km from the epicenter, Koprivnica (pop. 22,300) 29 km away, Barcs (pop. 12,100) 37 km away, Kaposvar (pop. 64,300) 49 km away, and Keszthely (pop. 19,700) 59 km away.
