Just 15 minutes ago, a 3.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Caravaca, Murcia, Spain. The tremor was recorded early morning on Thursday, September 18th, 2025, at 2:54 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 5. km below the surface.
The event was filed by Spain’s Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, IPMA), which listed it as a magnitude 3.5 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 3.2, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 3.2.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Calasparra (pop. 10,800) located 10 km from the epicenter, Cehegin (pop. 15,000) 10 km away, Caravaca (pop. 26,400) 15 km away, Mula (pop. 16,900) 21 km away, and Cieza (pop. 35,200) 27 km away. In Molina de Segura (pop. 64,100, 44 km away), Alcantarilla (pop. 41,100, 46 km away), Lorca (pop. 91,900, 52 km away), and Murcia (pop. 460,300, 52 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
