An earthquake of magnitude 3.4 occurred only 22 minutes ago 14 miles southwest of Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 2.3 miles beneath the epicenter near Kelowna, Regional District of Central Okanagan, British Columbia, Canada, late at night on Thursday, November 27th, 2025, at 11:19 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Peachland (pop. 5,000) located 6 miles from the epicenter, Summerland (pop. 11,600) 8 miles away, and Naramata (pop. 1,600) 8 miles away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include West Kelowna (pop. 28,800) located 11 miles from the epicenter, Kelowna (pop. 144,600) 14 miles away, Penticton (pop. 33,800) 16 miles away, Ellison (pop. 3,100) 19 miles away, and Lake Country (pop. 15,800) 23 miles away. An earthquake of magnitude 3.4 occurred late at night on Thursday, November 27th, 2025, at 11:19 pm local time near Penticton, Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen, British Columbia, Canada, as reported by the United States Geological Survey.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 2.4 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.5.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Kaleden (pop. 1,200) located 2 miles from the epicenter, Okanagan Falls (pop. 2,300) 3 miles away, and Penticton (pop. 33,800) 7 miles away.
