An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 occurred 31 minutes ago 95 km north of Zamboanga, Philippines, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter near Zamboanga, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Peninsula, Philippines, in the morning on Monday, September 22nd, 2025, at 10:11 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Siocon (pop. 5,100) located 25 km from the epicenter, Siraway (pop. 4,100) 31 km away, Vitali (pop. 9,700) 59 km away, Titay (pop. 11,500) 69 km away, and Labuan (pop. 12,900) 72 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ipil (pop. 19,200) located 75 km from the epicenter, Recodo (pop. 42,800) 89 km away, and Zamboanga (pop. 457,600) 95 km away.
