An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 occurred only 7 minutes ago 94 km northeast of Tobelo, Indonesia, Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate to considerable depth of 217. km beneath the epicenter near Tobelo, North Halmahera Regency, North Maluku, Indonesia, in the morning on Monday, November 24th, 2025, at 10:28 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.6 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Tobelo (pop. 34,200, 94 km away), and Galela (pop. 8,800, 99 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe
