An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 occurred only 10 minutes ago 9 km west of Khulm, Afghanistan, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 35. km beneath the epicenter near Khulm, Balkh, Afghanistan, after midnight on Monday, November 3rd, 2025, at 12:29 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 6.3 earthquake as well. Other agencies reporting the same quake include France’s Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) at magnitude 6.1, and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 6.3.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Khulm (pop. 64,900) located 9 km from the epicenter.
In Balkh (pop. 114,900) located 62 km from the epicenter, Kunduz (pop. 161,900) 113 km away, Baghlan (pop. 108,400) 118 km away, and Pul-e Khumri (pop. 56,400) 131 km away, the quake should have been felt as light
