The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 2.8 quake in Germany near Wiesbaden, Regierungsbezirk Darmstadt, Hesse, only 7 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the afternoon on Friday, October 24th, 2025, at 5:20 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Schlangenbad (pop. 6,300) located 1 km from the epicenter, Taunusstein (pop. 29,500) 7 km away, Eltville (pop. 16,800) 8 km away, Wiesbaden (pop. 278,600) 11 km away, Idstein (pop. 22,800) 18 km away, and Mainz (pop. 217,100) 18 km away. In Hofheim am Taunus (pop. 37,800, 25 km away), Ruesselsheim am Main (pop. 59,700, 26 km away), and Frankfurt am Main (pop. 650,000, 42 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
