An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 occurred only 10 minutes ago 37 km northeast of Rancagua, Chile, The National Seismological Center (Centro Sismológico Nacional, CSN) of the University of Chile reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate depth of 117. km beneath the epicenter near Rancagua, Provincia de Cachapoal, Region del Libertador General Bernardo O’Higgins, Chile, in the afternoon on Sunday, October 26th, 2025, at 4:08 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.0 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Paine (pop. 32,800, 23 km away), Graneros (pop. 23,300, 27 km away), Buin (pop. 55,400, 28 km away), Puente Alto (pop. 568,100, 32 km away), Machali (pop. 27,600, 34 km away), La Pintana (pop. 201,200, 37 km away), Rancagua (pop. 212,700, 37 km away), San Bernardo (pop. 249,900, 38 km away), Penaflor (pop. 65,500, 47 km away), and Santiago (pop. 4,837,300, 51 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
