The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 4.6 quake in Costa Rica near Canas, Cañas, Provincia de Guanacaste, only 29 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Monday, November 3rd, 2025, at 9:36 am local time at a very shallow depth of 6. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Tilaran (pop. 7,300) located 10 km from the epicenter, and Canas (pop. 20,300) 21 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in San José (pop. 31,400) located 48 km from the epicenter, Liberia (pop. 45,400) 53 km away, Quesada (pop. 27,300) 63 km away, Chacarita (pop. 26,400) 67 km away, Nicoya (pop. 15,300) 70 km away, and Esparza (pop. 15,600) 71 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include San Francisco (pop. 55,900) located 111 km

Just 5 minutes ago, a 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Copiapo, Provincia de Copiapó, Region de Atacama, Chile. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Monday, November 3rd, 2025, at 10:51 am local time, at a shallow depth of 12. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), which listed it as a magnitude 5.7 earthquake.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Copiapo (pop. 129,300) located 114 km from the epicenter.
