An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred 30 minutes ago 70 km southeast of Laoang, Philippines, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter near Laoang, Northern Samar, Eastern Visayas, Philippines, in the afternoon on Friday, October 31st, 2025, at 4:57 pm local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Alugan (pop. 2,100) located 19 km from the epicenter, San Policarpo (pop. 3,600) 20 km away, and Arteche (pop. 5,000) 23 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Oras (pop. 9,000) located 28 km from the epicenter, Gamay (pop. 9,100) 34 km away, Dolores (pop. 9,300) 35 km away, Laoang (pop. 16,700) 70 km away, and Borongan (pop. 16,500) 83 km away.
