Indonesia was shaken near Meulaboh, West Aceh Regency, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province, by an earthquake of magnitude 5.1 only 4 minutes ago, Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter near Meulaboh, West Aceh Regency, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province, Indonesia, in the morning on Saturday, October 25th, 2025, at 11:56 am local time. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Meulaboh (pop. 64,600) located 54 km from the epicenter, Blangpidie (pop. 24,100) 83 km away, Bireun (pop. 47,700) 89 km away, Reuleuet (pop. 40,400) 93 km away, and Lhokseumawe (pop. 196,100) 109 km away.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us
