Spain was shaken near Roses, Girona, Catalonia, by an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 only 5 minutes ago, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.
The quake hit at a great depth of 750. km beneath the epicenter near Roses, Girona, Catalonia, Spain, early afternoon on Tuesday, October 28th, 2025, at 3:07 pm local time. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Sete (pop. 40,700, 85 km away), Agde (pop. 23,000, 85 km away), Frontignan (pop. 22,300, 88 km away), Roses (pop. 20,200, 91 km away), Perpignan (pop. 110,700, 99 km away), and Girona (pop. 96,200, 132 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either
