An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 occurred only 10 minutes ago 77 km southwest of San Isidro, Costa Rica, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 16. km beneath the epicenter near San Isidro, Pérez Zeledón, Provincia de San Jose, Costa Rica, around noon on Saturday, November 22nd, 2025, at 12:41 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 5.1. A third agency, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.1.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Puerto Cortes (pop. 3,900) located 67 km from the epicenter, Quepos (pop. 7,800) 69 km away, Daniel Flores (pop. 10,000) 76 km away, San Isidro (pop. 34,900) 77 km away, Buenos Aires (pop. 11,700) 95 km away, and San Jose (pop. 335,000) 124
