An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 occurred only 12 minutes ago 64 km northeast of Hunchun, China, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a great depth of 548. km beneath the epicenter near Hunchun, Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Jilin, China, early evening on Saturday, October 25th, 2025, at 7:45 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from France’s Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.3. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 5.2, and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 5.2.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Hunchun (pop. 77,000) located 64 km from the epicenter, Aoji (pop. 34,200) 83 km away, Undok (pop. 89,200) 87 km away, Artyom (pop. 102,300) 95 km away, Sonbong (pop. 27,300) 98 km away, Tumen (pop. 78,700) 102 km away, Wangqing (pop. 88,700) 112 km away, and Yanji (pop. 327,000) 131 km away.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and
