A shallow magnitude 3.2 earthquake was reported in the morning near Concord, Contra Costa County, California, USA.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake hit on Sunday, October 26th, 2025, at 7:29 am local time at a shallow depth of 9.9 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), which listed it as a magnitude 3.2 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.2.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Lafayette (pop. 25,800) located 4 miles from the epicenter, Martinez (pop. 38,100) 5 miles away, Walnut Creek (pop. 68,900) 5 miles away, Concord (pop. 128,700) 7 miles away, Berkeley (pop. 121,000) 8 miles away, Richmond (pop. 109,700) 11 miles away, Oakland (pop. 419,300) 12 miles away, Vallejo (pop. 121,700) 12 miles away, and San Francisco (pop. 864,800) 19 miles away.
