Just 34 minutes ago, a 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Fairbanks, Fairbanks North Star, Alaska, USA. The tremor was recorded around noon on Wednesday, August 20th, 2025, at 12:35 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 7.8 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Four Mile Road (pop. 43) located 8 miles from the epicenter, and Nenana (pop. 380) 11 miles away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Anderson (pop. 270) located 26 miles from the epicenter, Ester (pop. 2,400) 37 miles away, College (pop. 13,000) 43 miles away, Fairbanks (pop. 32,300) 46 miles away, Farmers Loop (pop. 4,900) 47 miles away, Badger (pop. 19,500) 51 miles away, North Pole (pop. 2,200) 56 miles away, and Healy (pop. 1000) 60 miles away.
