A moderately shallow magnitude 4.8 earthquake was reported early morning near Anchorage, Alaska, USA.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake hit on Saturday, November 22nd, 2025, at 6:36 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 28 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), which listed it as a magnitude 4.0 earthquake. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.9.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Point MacKenzie (pop. 530) located 12 miles from the epicenter, Big Lake (pop. 3,400) 16 miles away, Anchorage (pop. 289,600) 18 miles away, Elmendorf Air Force Base (pop. 6,600) 25 miles away, Eagle River (pop. 24,800) 26 miles away, Eagle River (pop. 24,800) 26 miles away, Knik-Fairview (pop. 14,900) 26 miles away, Meadow Lakes (pop. 7,600) 30 miles away, Wasilla (pop.
