Just 8 minutes ago, a 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Surigao, Surigao del Norte, Caraga, Philippines. The tremor was recorded early morning on Tuesday, September 9th, 2025, at 2:52 am local time, at an intermediate depth of 134. km below the surface.
The event was filed by Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 5.3. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 5.3, and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 5.0.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Cagdianao (pop. 2,700) located 14 km from the epicenter, Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte (pop. 4,300) 20 km away, Dapa (pop. 8,800) 34 km away, Surigao (pop. 87,800) 37 km away, Placer (pop. 10,400) 37 km away, Socorro (pop. 9,700) 39 km away, Luna (pop. 7,800) 39 km away, Cabadbaran (pop. 31,100) 94 km away, and Butuan (pop. 309,700) 113 km away.
