An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred after midnight on Monday, December 1st, 2025, at 12:35 am local time near Guayaquil, Provincia del Guayas, Ecuador, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a moderately shallow depth of 55. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the Institute of Geophysics of the National Polytechnic School in Quito (IGEPN), which listed it as a magnitude 4.4 earthquake.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Santa Lucia (pop. 12,500) located 30 km from the epicenter, Guayaquil (pop. 2,723,700) 43 km away, Pedro Carbo (pop. 23,400) 45 km away, El Triunfo (pop. 32,300) 46 km away, Playas (pop. 30,600) 48 km away, Eloy Alfaro (pop. 315,700) 48 km away, Daule (pop. 173,700) 52 km away, Santa Elena (pop. 42,200) 65 km away, and Milagro (pop. 133,500) 76 km away.
