Just 22 minutes ago, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Managua, Departamento de Managua, Nicaragua. The tremor was recorded late at night on Monday, December 15th, 2025, at 10:55 pm local time, at an intermediate depth of 81.62 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), which listed it as a magnitude 4.4 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.4.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Masachapa (pop. 5,000) located 22 km from the epicenter, San Rafael del Sur (pop. 29,800) 29 km away, Diriamba (pop. 35,000) 38 km away, San Marcos (pop. 23,300) 45 km away, El Crucero (pop. 16,500) 47 km away, Ciudad Sandino (pop. 50,000) 64 km away, Managua (pop. 973,100) 64 km away, Mateare (pop. 61,200) 72 km away, Tipitapa (pop. 50,000) 78 km away, and Leon (pop. 144,500) 104 km away.
