An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 occurred only 6 minutes ago 62 km southeast of Balikesir, Turkey, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 11. km beneath the epicenter near Balikesir, Turkey, late at night on Monday, October 27th, 2025, at 10:48 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 6.1. Other agencies reporting the same quake include The Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA) at magnitude 6.2, the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) at magnitude 6.0, and The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 5.8.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
