The United States was shaken near Fox River, Kenai Peninsula, Alaska, by an earthquake of magnitude 5.6 only 3 minutes ago, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 15 miles beneath the epicenter near Fox River, Kenai Peninsula, Alaska, USA, in the morning on Thursday, October 30th, 2025, at 9:33 am local time. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Fox River (pop. 690) located 29 miles from the epicenter, Fritz Creek (pop. 1,900) 36 miles away, Seward (pop. 2,800) 44 miles away, Homer (pop. 5,500) 44 miles away, Diamond Ridge (pop. 1,200) 45 miles away, and Bear Creek (pop. 2,000) 49 miles away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Anchor Point (pop. 1,900) located 55 miles from the epicenter.
