An earthquake of magnitude 3.4 occurred only 17 minutes ago 10 km south of Evora, Portugal, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 19.10 km beneath the epicenter near Evora, Évora Municipality, Distrito de Evora, Portugal, in the morning on Monday, December 15th, 2025, at 9:39 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, IPMA) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.5. Other agencies reporting the same quake include Spain’s Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN) at magnitude 3.5, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 3.5.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Evora (pop. 55,600) located 10 km from the epicenter, Vidigueira (pop. 5,900) 31 km away, Reguengos de Monsaraz (pop. 7,200) 33 km away, Montemor-o-Novo (pop. 12,900) 33 km away, Cuba (pop. 4,900) 35 km away, and Redondo (pop. 5,800) 37 km away.
