At 413 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Union Grove to 6 miles south of Lenoir. Movement was east at 25 mph. HAZARD…Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE…Radar indicated. IMPACT…Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include… Taylorsville, St. Stephens, Granite Falls, Bethlehem, Stony Point, Harmony, Love Valley, Lake Hickory, Lookout Shoals Lake, and Rhodhiss.

Air Quality Alert issued September 4 at 1:13PM PDT by NWS Portland OR

The Lane Regional Air Protection Agency has issued an Air Quality Advisory, which is in effect until 8 pm PDT Friday. An Air Quality Advisory for Smoke has been issued. Wildfires burning in the region combined with forecasted conditions will cause air quality to reach unhealthy levels at times through Friday evening. Pollutants in smoke can cause burning eyes, runny nose, aggravate heart and lung diseases, and aggravate other serious health problems. Limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors if it is smoky. Please follow medical advice if you have a heart or lung condition. Significant earthquake of magnitude 5.0 just reported 77 miles south of Nikolski, Alaska, United States

A moderately shallow magnitude 5.0 earthquake was reported in the morning near Nikolski, Aleutians West, Alaska, USA.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake hit on Thursday, September 4th, 2025, at 10:54 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 21 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.0 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Nikolski (pop. 18) located 77 miles from the epicenter.
