Lake effect snow bands continue across Huron and Sanilac Counties this evening. Visibility reductions to a quarter mile have been observed as snowfall rates approach an inch per hour with northerly winds gusting to 25 mph. Snow covered roadways are likely to result in a slippery evening commute as air temperatures hover in the upper 20s. Bands will continue to produce peak snowfall rates of an inch per hour with additional accumulations through sunset of 1 to 2 inches. Drivers should be prepared for highly variable road conditions and rapid reductions in visibility during the evening commute.

At 306 PM CST, Doppler radar was tracking snow showers along a line from Ephraim to Jacksonport moving south at 15 mph. Visibilities in some of the heavier snow showers will drop below one mile, and at times briefly down to around 1/2 mile or less. The combination of wet roads, the new snow, and pavement temperatures expected to fall below freezing could cause roads to become slippery. Locations impacted include… Sturgeon Bay, Jacksonport, Ephraim, Egg Harbor, Newport State Park, Whitefish Bay, Baileys Harbor, Sister Bay, Peninsula Center, and Fish Creek.
