Just 21 minutes ago, a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Nikolski, Aleutians West, Alaska, USA. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Friday, December 12th, 2025, at 8:15 am local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 22 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.8 earthquake as well. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 4.8, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 4.9.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Nikolski (pop. 18) located 53 miles from the epicenter.
