Some patchy dense fog will restrict visibilities to less than one mile across parts of north and eastern Georgia. The fog should lift after 9 AM. If driving this morning, slow down, use low-beam headlights and leave extra distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.

An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 occurred only 11 minutes ago 109 km east of Miyako, Japan, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 20. km beneath the epicenter near Miyako, Miyako Shi, Iwate, Japan, early evening on Sunday, November 9th, 2025, at 6:03 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 6.3. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 6.3, and Geoscience Australia (GeoAu) at magnitude 6.7.
Generally quakes of this magnitude are recorded by more than one agency and the results can vary, with subsequent reports that come in after the first one often showing more accuracy.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Miyako (pop. 51,200) located 109 km from the epicenter, and Kamaishi (pop. 43,100) 118 km away, the quake should
