The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.3 quake in the United States near Salinas, Monterey County, California, 32 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Friday, November 28th, 2025, at 7:40 am local time at a very shallow depth of 4.1 miles. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
A second report was later issued by The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), which listed it as a magnitude 3.1 earthquake. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.2.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in San Juan Bautista (pop. 2,000) located 3 miles from the epicenter, and Prunedale (pop. 17,600) 6 miles away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Watsonville (pop. 53,600) located 10 miles from the epicenter, Hollister (pop. 37,500) 10 miles away, Gilroy (pop. 53,200) 11 miles away, Salinas (pop. 157,400) 12 miles away, and Morgan Hill (pop. 42,900) 20 miles
