Areas of fog have developed this morning. Some of this fog could be locally dense in spots with visibilities of around 1/4 mile. Motorists should prepare for sharp changes in visibility, allow for extra travel time, and use low beam lights. The fog should dissipate by mid-morning.

A magnitude 3.6 earthquake near Elko, Elko County, Nevada, USA, was reported only 30 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered the key international and national agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 5.1 miles beneath the epicenter early morning on Friday, August 29th, 2025, at 2:18 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.6 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.6.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Valmy (pop. 37) located 36 miles from the epicenter. In Battle Mountain (pop. 3,600, 41 miles away), Carlin (pop. 2,300, 46 miles away), and Elko (pop. 20,300, 56 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.

If you felt it, report it through our site or app right now!
