Geoscience Australia (GeoAu) reported a magnitude 2.8 quake in Australia near Orange, Orange Municipality, New South Wales, 32 minutes ago. The earthquake hit after midnight on Monday, December 15th, 2025, at 12:03 am local time at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 2.8 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Panuara (pop. 70) located 4 miles from the epicenter. In Millthorpe (pop. 1,200, 12 miles away), Orange (pop. 41,900, 13 miles away), Blayney (pop. 3,400, 17 miles away), Canowindra (pop. 2,300, 20 miles away), Molong (pop. 2,600, 25 miles away), Cowra (pop. 10,000, 31 miles away), and Bathurst (pop. 36,200, 35 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
