An earthquake of magnitude 2.8 occurred around noon on Tuesday, November 4th, 2025, at 12:51 pm local time near Bressuire, Deux-Sèvres, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 5. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Glenay (pop. 520) located 7 km from the epicenter, Saint-Varent (pop. 2,600) 7 km away, Mauze-Thouarsais (pop. 2,100) 10 km away, Thouars (pop. 11,500) 13 km away, and Bressuire (pop. 20,700) 14 km away. In Parthenay (pop. 11,600, 28 km away), Saumur (pop. 33,200, 45 km away), and Cholet (pop. 53,200, 46 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
