A shallow magnitude 4.8 earthquake was reported early afternoon near Ambon, Kota Ambon, Maluku, Indonesia.
According to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the quake hit on Saturday, September 20th, 2025, at 3:54 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Ambon (pop. 347,300) located 35 km from the epicenter.

JOB PURPOSE:   

The Department of Mechanical Engineering and the School of Energy Resources at the University of Wyoming invites applications for a tenure-track position in nuclear engineering, broadly defined. Individuals with research interests in any relevant areas are encouraged to apply, including reactor/nuclear physics, advanced energy systems, reactor thermal hydraulics, advanced computational methods, or materials science relevant to nuclear applications. The position will be filled at the Assistant Professor level and candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent with postdoctoral experience highly desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to excel in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, establish a nationally-recognized research program with significant external funding support, and contribute to departmental and university-wide governance.

CHICAGO  –  Wisconsin homeowners and renters in Milwaukee, Washington and Waukesha counties with uninsured damage to their primary home, personal property loss or disaster-related emergency needs due to the August storms and flooding may apply for FEMA assistance.
